The name of this character is unknown, but he appears first in the season 2 episode The Draugen |
This unnamed Weather Spirit is a supporting character who appears in the Season 2 episode "Chapter 2: The Draugen", as well as the tie-in book "Hilda and the Ghost Ship".
Personality[]
The weather spirit is quite full of himself; he gets annoyed if people try to talk to him, and even more so if they request him for a change in weather. He is also easy to anger if he feels he's being disrespected. When people show him respect however, he can be quite nice, though in this state he tends to brag about himself and weather spirits in general.
Biography[]
Animated series[]
The weather spirit is first seen when Hilda and Wood Man are sailing in the Björgfjord to try and find the Draugen. Since it's a nice, sunny day, and Draugen prefer storms, Hilda asks the weather spirit if he can make it rain for them. The spirit objects however, stating how in his youth he probably would have honored Hilda's request but as an adult he now considers himself above such banal requests. Knowing how Weather Spirits are prone to heated arguments, Hilda quickly states that it is now considered indecent to precipitate in front of others. Just as Hilda was hoping, this statement angers the Weather Spirit, and he grows into a huge thunder cloud, thus creating the storm she and Wood Man wanted.
The weather spirit appears again later in the episode when Hilda and Wood Man are trying to beat the Draugen and their ship in a race to win their freedom. The Draugen have the advantage since it's still storming. Hilda apologizes to the weather spirit for her earlier remarks, and even invites him to tell her all about his opinions about the true nature of weather spirits. The Spirit thus calms down, ending the storm, and the hot air generated by the Spirit's bragging gives Wood Man's boat the momentum it needs to beat the Draugen.
Novelization[]
The plot of "Chapter 2: The Draugen" is adapted into the book "Hilda and the Ghost Ship". In this book however, Hilda and Wood Man find the Draugen without any help. The Weather Spirit instead shows up for the first time during the race. And instead of coaxing the spirit into bragging, Hilda tells him some jokes about Wood Man which cause the spirit to laugh so hard he creates a strong wind that allows Hilda and Wood Man to win the race.
