Valfreyja is a giantess who appears in the graphic novels, animated series and the novelizations.
Valfreyja was a gardener and planter of trees. The first mountains were sculpted in her appearance, and she planted the forests that cover most of the Wilderness.
Appearance[]
Valfreyja is a female giant about the same size as Jorgen. She has long hair and a cone-shaped body. Her skin and hair share the same green color.

Graphic novels[]
In the graphic novels, Valfreyja briefly appears in "Hilda and the Midnight Giant" in a 1-panel flashback that shows her and the other giants leaving, and on a two-page image at the back of the book depicting the giants of old. She plays no direct part in any of the stories as the giants left Earth long ago by the time the graphic novel is set.
Animated series[]
In the animated series, Valfreyja is briefly seen in Wood Man's book The Giants of Old in the episode "Chapter 2: The Midnight Giant".
Valfreyja makes an official debut in the episode "Chapter 3: The Giantslayer." Curiously, her appearance is different from the graphic novel and the Wood Man's book, since she appears with a figure more of an humanoid, and not a cone-shaped one. She is among the giants that Hilda encounters after being send back in time by the Faratok tree. At the end of the episode, she leaves the Earth by leaping into space.
Tie-in series[]
In "Hilda and the Faratok Tree", Hilda and Wood Man travel 3000 years back in time because of the Faratok tree, and thus end up in the time of the giants. A giant that may or may not be Valfreyja appears on an image depicting 13 giants. She has long hair like Valfreyja, but a slimmer body. She is also not mentioned by name in the text. The giantess participates in the meeting organized by Aldinn and Sigmund where the giants decide to leave the Earth.
Trivia[]
- Before the release of "Hilda's Book of Beasts and Spirits", it was believed that Jorgen's girlfriend Illus was Valfreyja, as they are very similar in appearance with the only difference being that Illus has no hair. However, this theory contradicted the panel in "Hilda and the Midnight Giant" that clearly depicts Valfreyja and Illus in the same place, and with the release of "Hilda's Book of Beasts and Spirits" the theory was officially debunked.
