The real name of this character is currently unknown. |
Trundle's brother is a troll who appears in the sixth issue of the graphic novel series, as well as the movie adaptation.
Appearance[]
He is a very large troll, many times bigger than a human or most other trolls, though not quite as tall as his brother Trundle. He is also quite bulky, unlike his more slender build brother. He has a beard, a hunchback, and glowing white eyes. Be appears to be older than Trundle.
Biography[]
Graphic novels[]
He was among the trolls that stopped Trundle when the latter tried to rally all trolls into attacking Trolberg. After Trundle was stripped off his eye and locked away in a cave, his brother took the eye to the ruins of Trundle's castle and hid it among Trundle's treasures.
When Hilda was tricked by Trundle into retrieving his eye from the ruins, she was caught in the act by Trundle's brother. He chased her out of the cave, where Johanna and Erik Ahlberg had just arrived to search for Hilda. Thinking the troll was a threat, an outraged Ahlberg attacked him with his torch, but it had no effect and the troll easily kicked him aside. Hilda, fearing the troll would go after her mom next, leaped onto his face and attacked him. In the struggle, the troll stepped onto Johanna's car, lost his balance, and fell off a cliff.
He survived the fall however and made his way to Trolberg, just in time to see Hilda stop the fight between the humans and trolls. He told Hilda and Johanna about the legend of Amma, and how the trolls want to be in Trolberg to be close to her. He took Trundle's eye (Trundle himself having been killed at this point), and left the city with it.
Movie[]
Trundle's brother also appears in the movie adaptation of Hilda and the Mountain King. His role in the movie is largely identical to that of the graphic novel. The movie however adds an additional scene where he confronts Trundle after the latter has escaped his cave and is about to attack Trolberg. Trundle refuses to fight his brother, but orders his fellow trolls to restrain him while he continues his plan. After Trundle has been killed but his plan to provoke Amma has been averted, the troll can be seen honoring his late brother's remains, showing that despite the two ultimately having become enemies, he still considered him family.
Animated series[]
Although Trundle's brother did not appear in Season 3 of the animated series, he was indirectly mentioned in "Chapter 5: The Job" when Hilda explained to Anders and The Polecat how her mom's car was destroyed when a troll stepped on it.
Trivia[]
- His silhouette is prominently featured on the cover of "Hilda and the Mountain King". Because of this, it can be a common misconception that he was the Mountain King.
- According to Andy Coyle and Megan Ferguson, the crew never really thought about giving the character a name, and even in the script he is simply referred to as "Trundle's Brother. The animators working on the movie however nicknamed him "Brundle".[1]
- Trundle's brother does not appear in the tie-in book series.
