Trevor is a boy from Trolberg, appearing in the graphic novels, the animated series and the Hilda Tie-In Series, though he has a notably bigger role in the latter two. He is voiced by Reece Pockney.
Biography[]
Animated series[]
Trevor is first seen in a cameo on the schoolyard of The Ahlberg School in "Chapter 2: The Midnight Giant", before being properly introduced in "Chapter 3: The Bird Parade".
In Chapter 3, he and his friends were approached by Hilda, who tried to befriend them. They allowed her to hang out with them, but Hilda got fed up with the group when they started throwing rocks at birds, with Trevor actually hitting a raven. The raven turned out to be able to speak; something only Trevor and Hilda heard. Outraged, Hilda took the raven home before Trevor could show it to his friends.
Determined to prove he did see a talking raven, Trevor tracked down the raven, who had lost his memory because of being hit by the rock, and captured him in a cage. However, the raven refused to speak, and to make matters worse Alfur came to his aid, attacking Trevor. Since Alfur was invisible to his friends, the fight looked to them as if Trevor was just making weird faces, further humiliating him.
Fed up, Trevor captured the raven again and threatened to throw him off a bridge into the river if he didn't speak. Hilda came to his aid, reminding the raven who he really was; The Great Raven. This restored the birds memories, and he reverted back to his giant size. As he flew off with Hilda, he left a flabbergasted Trevor behind.
Trevor was next seen during the parent's night at The Ahlberg School in Chapter 5. When a baby troll that David had accidentally brought to school began to create chaos, he blames Hilda for everything, stating she's a witch.
After a few cameos, his next big role is in Season 2's "Chapter 10: The Yule Lads". As the Trolberg Winter Festival is coming up, he and his mom have their own stand on the market. Both are still suspicious towards Hilda. Trevor is warned by his mom to stay away from her. Trevor however wants to prove he is not afraid of her, and along with his friends attacks Hilda, David, and Frida with snowballs as they are selling broth for the Sparrow Scouts. Unbeknown to them, Hilda has befriended the Yule Lads. They launch a counter attack to drive Trevor and his friends off. That night, they visit Trevor in his home and abduct both him and his mom to be betrayed to Gryla. Trevor is released, however, when Hilda learns of this scheme and convinces the Lads to give Gryla the Sparrow Scout's broth as a substitute for human broth.
He is last seen in a brief cameo during the Bird Parade at the end of "Chapter 8: The Fairy Isle".
Graphic novels[]
In the graphic novels, Trevor only appears in "Hilda and the Bird Parade", and in a smaller role than the animated adaptation; his name is never mentioned, and he never finds out the raven can speak. After the incident where he hits The Great Raven with a rock, he and his friends quickly flee the scene and are not seen again for the remainder of the story.
The events from "Chapter 5: The Troll Rock" and "Chapter 10: The Yule Lads" don't happen in any of the graphic novels.
Another difference between the two adaptations; in the graphic novel, he and his friends came to Hilda's house to ask her to hang out with them, rather than the other way around as seen in the animated series.
Novelization[]
In the novelization of "Chapter 3", "Hilda and the Great Parade", Trevor is an outright bully who never tries to befriend Hilda (or she him), and has it out for her during the entire book. Like in the animated series, he causes the Great Raven to lose his memory and discovers the bird can talk. He sets his mind on using the bird for the upcoming Wonderful Trolberg exhibition at The Ahlberg School. He manages to capture the Raven by tracking it down to Hilda's house, and pretending to be a friend of hers so Johanna lets him take the Raven. The Raven refuses to cooperate however, and when the exhibition is disturbed by a young troll, Trevor flees from the school with the Raven. Hilda and David corner him at a bridge, where Trevor throws the Raven into the river. Hilda dives after him, and with some final Blue Nettle restores the Raven's memory. Trevor can only watch flabbergasted as the now giant Raven flies off with Hilda.
Trevor also appears in "Hilda and the Time Worm", which adapts the plot of Chapter 10: The Yule Lads. Early in the story, he and his friends attack the Sparrow Scouts broth stand with snowballs, but retreat when Erik Ahlberg and Gerda Gustav show up to tell Hilda she won the Safety Patrol's essay. Later in the story, he is abducted by the Yule Lads (who had been tipped by Hilda that Trevor is naughty), and prepared to be sacrificed to Gryla, but set free when Hilda convinces the Yule Lads to give Gryla the Sparrow Scouts' broth instead.
Personality[]
In all incarnations, Trevor is quite rude, and loves to play pranks or torment animals. He also hates being ridiculed or people not believing him.
However, if the various Hilda media are read/watched in chronological order, it is noticeable that Trevor gradually gets worse as a character with each adaptation:
In the graphic novel "Hilda and the Bird Parade", he has a smaller role and, while he still loves pranks and to throw rocks at birds, he is pretty friendly to Hilda and showed concern for her a few times. He and his friends also invited her to play with them.
In the animated adaptation, he is given a bigger role, and becomes more villainous, with an extended story line involving him trying to prove Raven could speak at any cost. Later, in "Chapter 5: The Troll Rock", he is quick to accuse Hilda of being a witch when a baby troll begins to wreck havoc in The Ahlberg School. The same episode reveals that, after his encounter with the Great Raven, he has developed a phobia for birds. Season 2 makes him even more of a brat, as Frida claims he causes a lot of trouble.
When the animated series in turn was adapted into a book, the novelization stripped Trevor of any sympathetic qualities, and made him more manipulative, mean-spirited and even violent. The book states him to be the bully of Hilda's class, and he never even tries to be friends with her. He tricks Johanna into giving him the Raven by pretending to be a friend of Hilda, and intentionally throws the Raven in the river when Hilda and David have him cornered at a bridge.
Relationships[]
He has a group of friends, though they don't seem too close considering how they waste no time mocking him when he tries to convince them he saw a talking raven, or laugh at him when his mom scolds him.
In "Chapter 5" he was seen with his mother at the parents night. Nothing is known about his father, and "Chapter 10: The Yule Lads" reveals his mom is a single parent.
