This unnamed male troll is a character that appears within the graphic novels plus the animated series, and the tie-in book series. His role is the same in all three incarnations.

Appearance[]

The troll looks like most other trolls, with his body resembles a large boulder with stumpy arms and legs, white blank eyes, and an elongated nose.

Biography[]

Graphic Novel[]

Hilda and Twig found the troll in "Hildafolk", while he was stuck in stone form from exposure to sunlight. Hilda wanted to drew him in her sketchbook, but was worried if the troll rock were to come to life, so she had Twig tie a bell around his nose as a warning before Hilda began to draw. Hours passed by and Hilda eventually fell asleep next to the petrified troll. She woke up after hearing the bell ring, and realized too late that it had already gotten dark and the troll was gone. Realizing the troll could be anywhere now, Hilda and Twig both panicked and fled.

Not along after returning home from the forest along with Wood Man, just as Hilda settled down in bed, she heard the bell ring again. The troll had followed her home and was now standing right outside from the window. Therefore, Wood Man explain to her that the troll clearly wanted Hilda to remove the bell from his nose, as he could not reach it himself because of his short arms and that everyone should know trolls hate the sound of bells; a fact in which case that Hilda herself didn't bother to read about earlier.

Hilda soon went outside to confront the troll, who merely looked motionless at her. Just as Twig removed the bell from his nose, Hilda was about to leave when the troll grabbed her. For a moment she feared he was going to eat her although the troll instead stuck out his tongue to reveal Hilda's sketchbook, which she had accidentally forgotten, the troll placed Hilda back on the ground and before she could even thank him, the troll left regardless.

Animated Series[]

In the Season 1 episode "Chapter 1: The Hidden People", the troll plays a mayor role similar to the graphic novel, where Hilda and Twig find him in his petrified state, and hang a bell around his nose as a warning. Hilda began to draw the troll rock as hours passed and once nightfall came, the troll soon return to life and chased both Hilda and Twig. Eventually, he caught up with them a little while later right when they reached Hilda's house. However, the troll seem distressed due to the bell ringing plus his arms were to short for him to remove himself. Hilda then approched towards the troll slowly, telling him not to worry as she gently removed the bell from his nose. After that, the troll had begun to glowered at Hilda, just as he soon grabbed and picked her up off the ground, while Hilda herself feared she would be eaten. Thankfully though, it wasn't quite what it seemed, for troll stuck out his tongue to reveal Hilda's sketch book that she apparently left behind. Then lowered her back down safely before the troll then walks away and he disappeared off into the distance.

In the Season 2 episode "Chapter 1: The Troll Circle", it was revealed that Hilda wrote an essay report at school about her encounter with that troll in which she won a contest for the Trolberg Safety Patrol.

Noveliaztion[]

In "Hilda and the Hidden People", the first chapter adapt Hilda's encounter with the troll from "Chapter 1: The Hidden People". Later in the story, the troll indirectly ends up helping Hilda get into the Caves of Kismet because Hilda can use the troll's saliva, which her sketch book is still covered with, as an improvised glue to navigate the narrow pathway into the caves.
