In "Chapter 1: The Hidden People" while running from this troll, Hilda and Twig pass by several woffs who were napping on some rocks when they're suddenly woken up by the troll's loud roar and thus fly away.
In "Hilda and the Stone Forest", after Hilda and Twig returned the Elf house that they saved from a Walking Land Creature earlier to it's proper place, a flock of Woffs flies by. Hilda, in the spur of the moment, decides to hop on one and fly along for a while. This forms the start of a compilation of Hilda secretly going on adventures.
Woffs startled by the bells[]
In "Chapter 6: The Old Bells of Trolberg", the Sparrow Scouts are observing a flock of Woffs when out of the blue the bells in the belltower begin to ring, startling the Woffs and causing them to crash. They cannot get up by themselves, so the Sparrow Scouts have to help them. A similar scene happens in "Hilda and the Time Worm". Here, the Woff helped by Hilda ends up dragging her with him into the air, forcing Hilda to jump off, after which the Keeper of the Bell saves her.
Tamed Woff[]
In Chapter 3: The Giantslayer after traveling through into the Faratok tree and stumbling upon a village, Hilda passes by this woff tied on a rope being feed by a child. Later, Hilda rode this woff up towards the giants trying to stop them from leaving Earth which they had already begun. The woff also appears in "Hilda and the Faratok Tree", but in this book it is Halvor who rides the woff to catch up with Kald and Drib to ask for their help to put out the fires Halvor's army accidentally started.
In "Hilda and the Mountain King", a woff can be seen while being devoured by a troll during a feast. A similar scene happened in the Movie only in that, the woff was shown to have barely escaped as it flow away.
In "Chapter 13: The Sone Forest", while Frida and David are looking for the castle ruins, they stumble upon a flock of woffs that were asleep among this flock was a rare white woff. However, when Frida tries to make contract with the woff, it and the others are alarmed and fly away where they cashed into the Safety patrol airship.
In Chapter 8: The Fairy Isle, when Astrid restores Johanna's memories of her childhood, one of these memories involves Johanna flying on a woff while her parents chase after her.
