Jaðarrokk is a giant who appears in the graphic novels, the animated series and the novelizations.
He lived deep within the Mountains of Misfortune. According to his official biography, he rarely saw the other giants, preferring the company of his six extra heads. However, in all his appearances he is seen among other giants.
Appearance[]
Jaðarrokk is enormous, rock-based behemoth with a number of six heads plus one upon his left shoulder.
Biography[]
Graphic novels[]
In the graphic novels, Jaðarrokk is only seen on a two-page image in "Hilda and the Midnight Giant" depicting the giants of old. He plays no direct part in any of the stories as the giants left Earth long ago by the time the graphic novel is set.
Animated series[]
In "Chapter 2: The Midnight Giant", Jaðarrokk appears in both a book from Wood Man about the giants of old, and in a flashback when Wood Man tells Hilda about the history of the giants.
In "Chapter 3: The Giantslayer", Hilda and Wood Man meet the ancient giants after traveling 3000 years into the past because of the Faratok tree. Jaðarrokk is one of them. He is first seen in a valley, and later when attending a meeting with the other giants where they decide they have to leave the Earth. At the end of the episode, they follow up on this decision and leap off the planet into space.
Novelization[]
The events of "Chapter 3: The Giantslayer" are adapted into "Hilda and the Faratok Tree". His role here is largely similar to the animated series. One difference is that in the book Drib is also attending the meeting, and Jaðarrokk carries him just like he did in the graphic novel. The giants decide the Earth has become too small for them and they should move into space. Hilda tries to convince the giants otherwise, but a second attack by Halvor and his troops proves the final straw and one by one the giants leap off the Earth, Jaðarrokk included.
