Hilda's Book of Beasts and Spirits is a book that serves as a tie-in to the Hilda animated series. The book was first published by Flying Eye Books on March 02, 2021.[1]. It is written by Emily Hibbs, with illustrations by Jason Chan.

Synopsis[]

Deep in the library is a book that tells of giants and Elves, woffs, and Deer-foxes, and all manner of creatures from the Wilderness to the center of Trolberg. Those who wish to learn will glean all the knowledge the need from Hilda's own copy of this fascinating compendium of beasts and spirits.

Background[]

The book serves as a bestiary for the various creatures seen in the Hilda franchise. The following species have an entry:

Goofs & Errors[]

  • Aldinn is misnamed as "Hár", and given Hár's color of fur.

Trivia[]

  • Eldrid and Cornelius as well their species are nowhere mentioned in this book.
  • Illustrator Jason Chan intentionally tried to give the book an aged look in the illustrations since the book is supposed to be from the Library, while simultaneously retaining the feel of both the series and graphic novels as much as possible. He personally considered the map of Trolberg and the image of the giants to be his favorite parts to draw.[2]
