Personality[]
Halvor is ill tempered and has an intense hate for giants due to one crushing his house. He is also eager to prove himself as a leader and to live up to his nickname, and can get defensive if people criticize him.
Biography[]
Animated series[]
When he was younger, Halvor's house was crushed by a giant and he lost everything. Convinced the giants were causing destruction on purpose, Halvor developed a deep grudge against them and decided to fight back.
When Hilda and Wood Man accidentally travel 3000 years into the past thanks to the Faratok tree, they find themselves near Halvor's village. Halvor and his soldiers have at this point already captured the giant Drib and are hoping to use him as bait to lure the other giants into a trap. Hilda feels sorry for Drib and goes to the camp to give this so called Giant Slayer a piece of her mind. She is naturally surprised to learn that the leader of the army is no older than she is. Halvor refuses to see reason and even shows Hilda his plan of attack.
Since she cannot convince Halvor to let Drib go, Hilda waits till nightfall and then sneaks back into the camp with Wood Man to free Drib herself. Unfortunately, she cannot free Drib completely as he accidentally knocks her off himself, and Wood Man is captured by the villagers. Then Kald comes to the village to free her brother, and Halvor attacks her with his army, using catapults to fire burning boulders at her. Halldór comes to her aid and together they defeat the human army, but are forced to retreat without Drib.
After talking to the giants herself, Hilda returns to Halvor's village and discovers the villagers are planning to burn Wood Man at the stakes. When she tries to free him, Halvor attacks her. They fight, and in the fight Halvor accidentally sets his own village on fire when he first stabs some barrels with oil, and then knocks down a torch. Hilda eventually disarms Halvor, and after hearing about his past she confesses that she too lost her house to a giant. But she also points out the giants are not aware of the destruction they cause, just like how Halvor was not aware of the fire he started until Hilda points it out to him. Seeing his village and his people in distress, Halvor finally realizes his error. He frees Drib himself, and Drib puts out all the fires. Halvor makes sure his people are okay. However, despite Halvor coming around, the Giants still depart for space, as humans everywhere fear them.
Tie-in series[]
The events in the tie-in books largely follow that of the animated series, but there are some key differences. In the book, Halvor had his army conceal their catapults on a hill under a tarp to ambush the giants. Hilda actually manages to free Drib herself, but when Drib escapes he runs straight for the hill with the catapults, and Halvor orders his soldiers to attack him. This attracts the other giants and a fight begins. Besides Kald, Halvor also has to fight Gertl and Einarr. Again, the giants win the fight, but Halvor and his army follow them to their meeting and attack again, with flaming arrows this time. A few stray shots of these flaming arrows are what cause the fire in the village and the forest. After Hilda makes Halvor see reason, he rides a Woff to catch up with Kald and Drib to apologize for what he has done, and ask for their help to put out the fires.

Trivia[]
- When Halvor tells Hilda that he lost "everything" when his house was destroyed by a giant, it's heavily implied that his parents (and possibly his entire family) were killed in the incident. This makes Halvor's hatred for the giants somewhat justified, as his story of loss much more tragic than Hilda's own experience with Jorgen.
