Halldór is an ancient Giant who appears in the graphic novels, the animated series and the novelizations.
According to his biography in "Hilda and the Midnight Giant", he descended from a line of great warrior giants, but was actually one of the most gentle giants. He was greatly sympathetic to the little people, and is the giant most fondly remembered in their tales.
Appearance[]
Halldór is a humanoid giant with a small, dome-shaped head.
In both the graphic novel and in "The Giants of Old" he is depicted with a belt around his waist, which, combined with the fur on his legs, makes it look like he is wearing fur pants. In "Chapter 3: The Giantslayer" he does not wear this belt, proving the fur is actually part of his body.
In "Hilda's World: A guide to Trolberg, the wilderness, and beyond" he is depicted with a yellow skin and no fur on his legs for unknown reason.
Biography[]
Graphic novels[]
Halldór appears in "Hilda and the Midnight Giant" in a two-page image depicting the giants of old. According to the graphic novel, he did not leave with the others and it is unclear what became of him.
He plays no role in any of the stories as the giants left long ago.
Animated series[]
An image of him is seen in "Chapter 2: The Midnight Giant" in Wood Man's book "The Giants of Old".
Halldór is a supporting character in "Chapter 3: The Giantslayer", where Hilda meets him after she and Wood Man travel 3000 years into the past due to the Faratok tree. In the past, the giant Drib has been taken captive by a group of villagers led by Halvor. Kald tries to free him, and when the humans attack her with catapults, Halldór comes to her aid and intercepts the projectiles. Together they wreck most of the catapults before retreating. This behaviour of his however contrasts with his description from the graphic novel, which claims he was sympathetic towards humans.
Hilda follows them. Halldór and Kald both meet up with their fellow giants, and decide the time has come for them to leave the Earth, as humans fear and hate them. Halldór is last seen leaping off into space. This however again contradict the information from the graphic novel.
Novelization[]
The events of "Chapter 3: The Giantslayer" are adapted into "Hilda and the Faratok Tree". While Halldór is not mentioned by name in the text, he is seen on an image depicting 13 giants. His role is smaller than in the animated series as he does not participate in the fight with Halvor's army. Presumably, he was among the 18 giants that attended the council held by Aldinn and Sigmund, where the giants decided to leave the Earth.
Trivia[]
- Halldór can be seen on a drawing of the ancient giants in "Hilda's World: A guide to Trolberg, the wilderness, and beyond", but his legs lack any fur and are notably thinner in this depiction of the character.
