Biography[]
Graphic novels[]
In the graphic novels, Gertl is only seen on a two-page image in "Hilda and the Midnight Giant" depicting the giants of old. She plays no direct part in any of the stories as the giants left Earth long ago by the time the graphic novel is set.
Animated series[]
In "Chapter 2: The Midnight Giant", Gertl appears in both a book from Wood Man about the giants of old, and in a flashback when Wood Man tells Hilda about the history of the giants.
In "Chapter 3: The Giantslayer", Hilda meets Gertl after she and Wood Man travel 3000 years back in time because of the Faratok tree. She is among the giants that hold a meeting after Drib has been taken captive by Halvor, and the giants have failed to free him. They decide the world has become too small for them and they should leave. Even after Drib is freed, the giants still follow up on their decision.
Novelization[]
The events of "Chapter 3: The Giantslayer" are adapted into "Hilda and the Faratok Tree". Gertl has a larger role here as she is among the giants that attack Halvor and his army to help Drib escape. She even uses the boulder on her head as a weapon in this fight. After the battle, Gertl attends a meeting of the giants where they decide the Earth has become too small for them and they should move into space. Hilda tries to convince the giants otherwise, but a second attack by Halvor and his troops proves the final straw and one by one the giants leap off the Earth, Gertl included.
