Garth is a character who appears in the Season 3 episode "Chapter 5: The Job" and it's tie-in novel adaptation "Hilda and the Faratok Tree". His name is only revealed in the latter.

Garth is a short man with brown skin and black hair, though he is balding. He also has a small beard.

Animated series[]
Garth works for The Polecat along with Gunther. The two however don't like each other at all and constantly bicker.
They are first seen when the Polecat hires Anders and Hilda to pick up a package at the castle ruins, where Gunther and Garth are already waiting. On arrival they find the package is a huge wooden chest that is at the bottom of a hole. Gunther and Garth have no way of getting the chest out of the hole since Gunther forgot to bring a rope, and are also pissed that the Polecat send Anders instead of coming himself. Anders fetches them a rope from the Polecat's truck, and on his instructions they use a rafter at the ceiling to make a pulley to haul the chest out. As they get to work, Gunther tells Anders and Hilda how the chest belongs to a Troll's hoard and is filled with gold. This upsets Hilda, and she refuses to further help them, leading to an argument and eventually a fight in which Anders fights with Garth and Gunther is attacked by Twig. Then first Johanna shows up, having learned about Hilda's and Anders' whereabouts from David, and then the troll whose treasure they are stealing. The troll causes Hilda to drop the keys of the truck. Gunther and Garth immediately grab the keys and run off, leaving Anders, Johanna and Hilda to deal with the angry troll. they are not seen again.
Tie-in book[]
Their role in the tie-in book is largely identical to the animated series. A difference is that here Anders has no rope either, so Hilda offers to get a rope, and eventually gets one after an adventure in the past with the Faratok tree. They also briefly end up on the rafter with Hilda when the Troll comes to reclaim his loot; something that does not happen in the animated series. And Johanna never meets them as she shows up at the ruins after the two have already left.
