Fort Ahlberg is a castle whose ruins are located outside the city of Trolberg.
It appears in the graphic novels, animated series and tie-in books. The ruins are only ever called by name in the book "Hilda and the White Woff". In all other media they're simply called "the castle ruins". The name implies the castle belonged to Edmund Ahlberg or another member of the Ahlberg family.
The dust of the ruins is a key component in many magic spells.
Appearance and location[]
On the surface, not much is left of the old castle. Only some crumbling, moss covered walls are still standing. On the inside however the fort has been better preserved. This is best seen in "Chapter 5: The Job". There's a dungeon with prison cells, and a central room with an intact roof that includes several rafters.
In the animated series the ruins are only a short drive away from Trolberg, and close enough that it's even possible to travel there on foot and back within a few hours tops. Hilda and Twig did this in "Chapter 13: The Stone Forest". The tie-in books on the other hand imply the fortress is a bit further away. In "Hilda and the White Woff" the ruins are stated to be in The Great Forest, and it took Hilda and friends so long to get there they had to spend the night there before heading back to Trolberg. In "Hilda and the Faratok Tree", the ruins are suddenly stated to be in the Forest of Nott, and again a long drive away from Trolberg.
Role in the series[]
Graphic novels[]
In "Hilda and the Stone Forest" there's a panel showing Hilda and Twig exploring the ruins.
Animated series[]
In "Chapter 13: The Stone Forest", Hilda and Twig visit the ruins to collect dust for Frida since she needs it for a spell.
In "Chapter 5: The Job", The Polecat discovers a troll has hidden it's hoard in the ruins, which includes a chest filled with gold. He sends Gunther, Garth, Anders and Hilda to get this chest for them, but the troll catches them in the act and comes close to harming Anders when he chases Anders into the dungeons.
Tie-in books[]
In "Hilda and the White Woff", Hilda, Frida and David secretly go camping so they can visit the ruins to collect the dust for Frida.
"Hilda and the Faratok Tree" adapts the events from "Chapter 5: The Job".
