Twig has some weird dream
Upon waking up, he also wakes Hilda.
Unfortunately, he can’t go to school with Hilda.
And Johanna gets so caught up in her work she forgets to walk him.
When Hilda comes home, she immediately leaves again to play with Frida and David, forgetting Twig.
The 3 kids track down a ghost that stole David’s shoes.
They try to sneak up on him, but David accidentally gives them away.
The ghost pushes him into the mud
And then escapes into a pit.
That night, Twig has the dream again.
He obviously feels trapped.
When he wakes up, he notices a glow in the distance.
Twig opens the window with his antlers
And slips through a crack in the town gate.
As he leaves Trolberg, it begins to rain.
He seeks shelter in a cave, but it turns out to be occupied by a troll.
The following day, Hilda notices Twig is gone.
He is not in Nowhere Space
Alfur notices antler marks on the window. Twig has gone outside.
With the sun up, and the trolls turned to stone, Twig leaves his hiding place.
Alfur receives word from the Lost Clan that they saw a deerfox leave the city last night.
Hilda theorizes Twig must have run off to their old cabin. He must miss the wilderness.
Johanna promises her they will go look for him in the morning. Alfur sends a message ahead to the Northern Counties.
He sets his eye on a rabbit
But the hunter becomes the hunted when the chase leads him straight to a wolf.
Twig seeks shelter among the ruins of Hilda’s old home.
There, he finds an old picture of him and Hilda.
The next day, Hilda and Johanna set out to find Twig. They narrowly avoid crashing their car into a troll.
As they near their old home, Hilda recalls an event from her younger days.
She heard a sound coming from between some rocks.
This is how she first met Twig.
Hilda freed him from underneath the rocks.
But the deerfox ran off when Johanna appeared.
In the present, Hilda and Johanna arrive at their old house.
An Elf informs them Twig has been seen in the area, and points them in the right direction.
Twig meanwhile is at a chasm and climbs down.
The wolf finds him again.
But Twig is able to escape by swimming across a river.
He imagines Hilda congratulating him.
Hilda and Johanna ask the Wood Man for help.
Sadly, he has no information for them. Nobody really knows anything about deerfoxes.
But before his guests leave, Wood Man gives them some words of advice, which give Johanna an idea.
Hilda and Johanna thus visit the same chasm.
Another flashback reveals Hilda and Johanna have been here before.
Hilda noticed a strange glow in the distance.
Johanna recalls how Hilda fell down the chasm, onto a cliff with an eagles nest.
When the eagle drove her further off the cliff, Twig came to her rescue.
And showed her how to get back up.
In the present, Hilda notices the same glow again. That must be where Twig is.
Hilda and Johanna thus cross the chasm.
But as they climb onto the other side, they find the wolf waiting for them.
The wolf chases after Hilda.
Fortunately, Twig comes to her rescue.
Hilda quickly comes up with a plan…
And they trick the wolf into charging off the cliff.
And therefore falls below.
United at last. Hilda apologizes to Twig.
Then they notice an adult Deerfox.
It’s a whole herd in fact.
This is where Twig was born.
The Deerfox summon a path to a different dimension.
Twig recalls how he once almost left to that dimension with his family.
But when he heard Hilda was in trouble, he ran off to help her instead.
Hilda understands that Twig doesn’t want to miss another opportunity.
Twig reunites with his parents.
And follows them to the Deerfoxes home dimension.
But something tells him this is not where he should be.
The realization of how much of her old life is gone finally becomes too much for Hilda.
Fortunately for her, Twig has decided to stay after all.
The following day, Hilda and friends confront the ghost again.
And this time, they succeed, thanks to Twig.
A final flashback shows Hilda going on her first adventure with Twig.
