It’s summer time, and in the village of Tofoten, Hilda’s great-aunt Astrid sends a letter to Johanna and Hilda, inviting them both to come stay with her for a while.
Thus, sometime later, Hilda and Johanna take the train to Tofoten. Tontu, Alfur, David, and Frida are all invited to come along for the ride. As Johanna buys the tickets, Alfur insists she buys one for him too, even though he could easily travel for free as he is invisible to most people. During the train ride, Johanna, Tontu, and Alfur kill the time with some games of Dragon Panic, which Tontu keeps winning, while Hilda, David, and Frida just relax. Hilda admits that this is her first visit ever to Tofoten, as usually aunt Astrid came to visit them.
Once in Tofoten, the group is greeted by Astrid and her pet Loam. Astrid welcomes them all with some of her rituals, like sprinkling them with feverfew and salt-of—water-spirit. She also reveals she can see Alfur, and claims she signed the paperwork a long time ago. As they walk into Tofoten, Astrid explains how a lot of the houses are holiday cottage now, as the town has become quite the tourist hotspot. Hilda notices that a lot of houses have horseshoes on them, which Astrid claims is a Tofoten tradition. One house in particular has dozens of Horseshoes on it, but only Hilda seems to notice. And unbeknown to Hilda, someone inside might be watching her.
When they get to Astrid's house, the kids explore the place. David finds a room where Astrid makes her own lucky charms, which she also sells to tourists. She tells Johanna that she has taken up delivering mail as well, and it’s time to make her round. She leaves with Loam, leaving her guests to entertain themselves. Hilda, Frida, and David head out into town to explore, but Hilda quickly grows bored when she can’t find anything adventurous about Tofoten. She keeps wondering about the horseshoes, and asks a local about it, who claims the horseshoes are meant to ward off Fairies. This immediately captures Hilda’s attention.
Back at Astrid’s house, Johanna tries to relax while Tontu is bothered by hay fever. His sneezing causes him to get trapped in his folding chair, and he knocks over Johanna’s drink. Johanna heads back inside, where she finds Frida, David, and Hilda. When Astrid also returns home, they get visited by her neighbor; a shapeshifter named The Pooka. He wants to borrow an egg cup, but Astrid doesn’t trust it and takes his bag from him. The bag turns out to contain a woff egg that the Pooka must have stolen from the nearby woff cave. However, Astrid is too tired from her mail round to return the egg herself, but she claims Johanna knows the way. Reluctantly, Johanna takes the kids and Tontu to the cave. Along the way the Pooka makes another attempt to steal the egg, but Hilda steals it back after tricking the Pooka into turning into a snake. Johanna meanwhile has a feeling there’s something wrong with these woods.
When they get to the cave, they return the egg to it’s nest, where it promptly hatches. The newly born woff reunites with it’s mother. Then, the other woff wake up, and accidentally trap Hilda and friends on a platform when they knock down a part of the walkway. To escape, Johanna instructs everybody to jump onto a woff. The woff carry them out of the cave and take them on a ride in the clouds that they all enjoy (though Alfur and David less so than the others).
Once back in Astrid’s house, Johanna admits she used to ride woff in her youth, but had forgotten about it till now. Hilda thanks Astrid for having them over, because she doesn’t have that many family outside her mom. Later, as they settle down for the night, Hilda finds a set of panpipes on the bookshelf in her bedroom, as well as a book about the Fairies of Tofoten.

Trivia[]
- The events from the movie are briefly mentioned when Astrid tells Hilda she is glad Hilda is back to normal, because she wouldn't know what to cook for her had Hilda still been a troll.
- As of this episode, Hilda, David, and Frida are slightly taller because their characters have gone through puberty after the events of Hilda and the Mountain King. David's voice has gone deeper as well.
- It is revealed that woffs hatch from eggs.
- When flying the Baby Woff, Alfur complains that it is nothing like flying a pigeon, referring to the times he rode on Cedric.
