Barch is an elf first seen in Chapter 11: The House in the Woods.
Appearance[]
Barch wears a red shirt identical to that of Alfur. Aside from his black moustache, he doesn't look too different from other Elves.
Personality[]
Barch loves to play Elf Poker, and according to the Wood Man he is very good at reading faces. When first seen, he is playing with three other Elves, the Wood Man and a Forest Giant. He is also polite and helpful, as proven by how he offered to help Hilda get letter to her mom in Trolberg.
Biography[]
After Hilda got lost in The Great Forest, she found Barch, Wood Man and some other elves playing cards. When she asked for Wood Man's help to get back to Trolberg, Barch offered Hilda to send her mother a message by email to tell her she was okay. He brought the letter for her to the nearest post office.
Later, when Alfur and Twig traced the letter back to him to try and find Hilda, Barch demanded Alfur would win this information with poker, but only since they were short on players. Alfur ended up playing with them for six hours before getting the info he needed.

Trivia[]
- The scene of the Wood Man playing poker with a group of Elves is also featured in the novel "Hilda and the Nowhere Space", but none of the Elves are given a name there, so it's unknown if Barch was one of them.
